| Peace Wall Report 2
Yoshitsugu Kunimatsu, the Governor of Shiga prefecture,
gave exceptional praise for the Peace Wall, even expressing hope to
move the whole facility
to the shore of lake Biwa.
Even though the enlarged prints exhibited during the event had a robust
coating applied to them, minor stains were made after the heavy rain,
which lasted for
two days. Nothing went out of control, but there is room for further improvement.
It is probable that this method will gain attention in the future, even considering
the fact that the younger generationŐs interest in arts is gradually waning,
as it provides an occasion to appreciate artworks in a casual outdoor exhibition,
which are otherwise limited to gallery, museum, or indoor exhibitions. It can
suite many different environments from both bustling and desolate sections
of a city to the middle of the wilderness.
It also coincided with the release of Beaujolais Nouveau, and artistic wine
labels were added to the exhibition. The exhibition of labels was previously
experimented
at the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport once before, bringing about a worldwide
sensation. Beaujolais Nouveau proved its excellence, providing the visitors
the luxury of enjoying the taste and its label at the same time.
A free reduced-size edition of Univers Des Arts, Japan was also distributed
as a part of their campaign, offering an extra attraction to the visitors.
Unfortunately, the heavy rain that commenced on the first afternoon slowed
down the flow of visitors, but on Saturday, the third day, it was a gorgeous
day,
revitalizing the usual bustle of Odaiba. At a time, the queue of people in
hopes to taste test Beaujolais Nouveau reached the adjoining building. On this
day,
the event site was filled with couples and families who were holding wine tasting
cups and the reduced edition of Univers Des Arts on their hands. The total
number of visitors for this day exceeded 10,000. Foreign tourists visiting
Odaiba exhibited
great interests toward calligraphy and other unfamiliar works, thus taking
photographs of them.
This event was created with a depth of innovative insight and provided an opportunity
for all visitors to experience and discover the relation between art and peace;
Art culture can strengthen vague messages toward peace, and these messages
can likewise give deeper meanings to the art works. We are content to bring
more
peace messages to many cities throughout Japan and other countries.
